The Department of English acquaints the students with basic communication concepts and enables them to learn and understand the language in a true perspective. The Department conducts classes on spoken English, Soft skills, Newspaper reading, Creative writing, Seminar presentation and Group Discussions. The Department has developed “UTOPIA” - A theatre show, involving drama, poetry recitation, Creative writings and Audio and Video shows. The Department helps the students to overcome stage fear by training them in public speaking.


  • The Department of English conducted UTOPIA- Theatre Show-V observing the theme Humanitarianism And Environment, on 30 September 2016.
  • The Principal Dr.R.Gayathri and Vice Principal Mrs.K.T.Hema and the Special Invitee Dr.Vinata Sai, Former Head of English Department of the college graced the occasion.
  • Students of various disciplines performed on stage events such as Mime, Play, Mimicry, Dance and Praising the Portrait on the occasion.
  • Prashanthini of III BCA presented a speech on her "Journey from Srilanka to TSN College".
  • Mrs.T.Charumathy, Asst.Professor, Department of English organised "Connections", a language game on the theme Humanitarianism using picture images. .
  • Prizes were distributed to the winners of the event and to the winners of "Correcting the Misspelt Words" and "Slogan Writing Contest on Humanitarianism", which were conducted in the month of July and August. Certificates were issued to the students, who performed on stage events.


  • The Department of English Inaugurated 'Literarius Association' on 20 July 2016.
  • As a part of the function an Oratorical and Drawing Competition was organized for school children on the topic "Impact of Social Media: Boon or Bane".
  • Fourteen children from 6 schools participated in the competition.
  • Mrs. P. Radha, Principal of Government Girls Hr. Sec School, Thiruporur was the Chief Guest.
  • Prof. Annie Rajani Priya, H.O.D, English, gave the Key note address.
  • The Chief Guest, Mrs. P. Radha gave the presidential address on the importance of learning English.
  • The Winners and participants were awarded with Prizes and Certificates.
