This lecture provided an overview of 3D Printing technologies, as well as their present and likely future applications. He enforced that this technology encompasses a wide range of additive manufacturing technologies, which uses CAD model, processed with slicing software. The 3D printer is filled with the necessary raw materials layer after layer to get a complete product. This overcomes the way how the conventional printing occurs. With respect to applications he broadened, the 3D printers have many promising areas of potential future application viz., – spare parts for all manner of products (Aerospace and Automobile Manufacturing), to make future buildings, to create replacement organ, and much more. Within ten or twenty years, the digital manufacturing capabilities of 3D printing and related technologies are set to have a transformational impact on the direct or indirect production of some products, besides a great many individuals and organizations.
Feedback :
We have approached a new way of collecting feedback through Online SurveyMonkey.com from the students.
Follow-Up Plan :
The guest invited the students and staff members to CEG Campus, Anna University for a live show of 3D-Printing.

REPORT ON MOBILE APP DEVELOPMENT – FDP

DATE: 06/04/2016 & 07/04/2016
"The future is mobile and all the services and offerings are going to run through applications only."
The Department of Computer Science organized a two-day Faculty Development Programme on "Mobile App Development" with Hands-On activity. The programme started with the introductory talk by HOD, Mrs.J.Vanathi and continued with a talk by Mr. D. Rajasekaran, Consultant (IT), T.S. Narayanaswami College of Arts and Science, Navalur.
Session 1: The session started interestingly with an introduction about mobile applications and how they could easily be incorporated in the mobile phones. Android apps live in a highly fragmented multi-device world and it’s a process by which application software is developed for hand-held devices. The faculty members started building apps by selecting components and specifying their behavior. On the "App Inventor Environment" – created the first app called "HelloPurr" and its version of .apk file was built in the mobile phones. The session gave insights to acquire knowledge to develop, test and launch mobile app quickly on mobility platforms such as Android and Windows.

Session 2: The more on the first app started to develop with another component called "Canvas" component which lets us to draw and sensed touches and dragged and mapped the events to draw many more functions. The app was named as "PaintPot" where every one drew on the screen in different colors and then updated it with drawing dragged lines, took picture and set it as background on the app with colorful dots of different sizes. Here creativity played an important role. Finally, the practical programme gave us some aspects of mobile applications including User Interface design, deployment and portability tools.
