She had pursued her under graduation and post graduation in Bio-Chemistry from Bharathi Women's College,Chennai, M.Phil and Ph.D at IBMS Taramani, University of Madras.She qualified her SET and has about 20 years of teaching experience in the field of Biochemistry, conducted National Conference and Seminar at our college to expose students to modern technologies.
The Department of Biochemistry was established in the Year 1996 with UG course. The Department gradually developed and PG course was introduced in the year 2006. Since its inception the Department has produced 1 gold medalist and 6 university rank holders. The Department has a well equipped laboratory suitable for doing research activities. It is also keen in promoting activities beyond academics. Seminars, workshops, guest lectures and inter collegiate meets are being conducted every year.

Brief Description: In commemoration of World Vitiligo Day, an awareness talk on Vitiligo followed by a lecture cum demonstration on Vector borne diseases (Malaria, Dengue, Filaria, Chikunguniya, Japanese Encephalitis, Kala azar),preventive and control measures were delivered. The programme focussed on educating the student community (70 students from Dept. of Biochemistry and NSS volunteers) about vitiligo as well as precautionary measures and identification of disease causing mosquito larvae.
The Department of Biochemistry had organized an Intercollegiate fiesta to commemorate Nutrition week in association with Food & Nutrition Board, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India, on 07/09/16.

The Department of Biochemistry had organized an industrial visit to International Institute of Biotechnology and Toxicology Research Institute, Padappai on 17.08.2016. Final year UG and PG students of the Department visited IIBAT along with a staff, Mrs.P.Mahalakshmi. Students were exposed to various instrumentation and latest updates on research field.
