Consumer Club

The Citizen Consumer Club is an affiliated club to the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Government of Tamil Nadu, which was established in the academic year 2013-2014. The motto of the club is to enhance awareness among the student community about the rights and responsibilities as a consumer. The club has 350 students as members.

Mission of Citizen Consumer Club

  • To enable students understand fundamental rights of a citizen.
  • To enable students realize and learn the fundamental duties of a good citizen.
  • To inject knowledge and skill relating to consumer rights among youth.
  • To impart knowledge on product standard, product quality and about markets.
  • To learn about laws enacted for protection/ welfare of consumers and enforcements authorities concerned.
  • To develop a sense of awareness among youth on methods of exploitations of consumers by business concerns and measures to protect them.

Objectives Of Citizen Consumer Clubs (CCC)

  • Bring awareness and realization about duties and responsibilities as Citizens of India.
  • Spread awareness about the rights and responsibilities of Citizens and Consumers as provided in the Constitution of India, Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and other Indian Laws.
  • To enable children, students and self-help groups to work together as a team with local communities and develop in to caring, responsible and honest citizens.
  • Mobilize and instill right-consciousness and confidence to question violations of citizen and consumer rights and fight for justice.
  • Impart knowledge about real life situations and to enable to development of skills to handle citizen and consumer issues.
  • Instill concern for environment around us as citizens and consumers and for sustainable consumption habits.

Club Membership

All the students, irrespective of their branch of study, are eligible to become a member of the club.


Title: Indispensability of consumerism
Date: JUN 27, 2017
Objective of the Programme: To promote the importance of consuming organic food in a practical way, rights and duties of consumer.
Resource Persons: Dr. Sultan Ahmed Ismail, Director, Eco Science Research Foundation and Former head of the Department of Bio technology, New College
Brief Description: The programme began with the prayer song followed by welcome address by Mrs. S. Hemalatha, Convener. The introduction of Chief guest was given by N. Gayathri, III B. As a token of gratitude, a small memento and shawl were presented to the chief guest by the convener. The names of the office bearers of Citizen Consumer Club for the academic year 2017-2018 were announced and distribution of badges were done by the Chief guest. In the special address of Chief guest, he highlighted the importance of consuming organic food in a practical way and covered rights and duties of consumer. Mr. Rajesh Kannan, Assistant Professor, presented the vote of thanks. Then the programme was concluded with the National anthem. The entire programme was compered by S. Saranya, III B.Com ‘B’.
Feedback: The audience gave a positive feedback that the session provided an excellent insight of consuming organic foods and a good awareness about rights and duties of a consumer.

Date and Venue: 23 February 2017 / ELANGO HALL
Objective: To create an awareness on Standards and its Benefits, Mechanical Engineering Standards, Electrical Engineering Standards, Hall Marking Standards, and to explain the System Standards and the impact on consumer.

Brief Description:
The audience of the programme were II year Citizen Consumer Club members of the college. The programme was started with Welcome Address and Programme Objectives by Shri.S.D.Dayanand which was followed by Inaugural Address by Dr.R.Gayathri, Principal. The technical session was started by Shri.Vishal Tomer on the topic "Standards and its Benefits with specific focus on Consumer Oriented Mechanical Engineering Standards", which was followed by Shri.Trinath Kothapalli on the topic "Consumer Oriented Electrical Engineering Standards and Product Certification and Hall Marking Procedures". The last session was handled by Shri.S.D.Dayanand on the topic, "System Standards and their impact on Consumers". The vote of thanks was given by Mrs.Hemalatha, Convener, Citizen Consumer Club.
Feedback from the students were collected. They felt, it was a useful programme, which gave them an awareness on Standards.
Follow - up:
A feedback letter from college was sent to BIS thanking them for organizing the programme and a request was made to continue their support in the forthcoming years.
